The Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC) in Songdo, Incheon, South Korea announces a vacancy for a Full‑Time Postdoctoral Researcher in the Biomedical Research Center (RC5). This center is dedicated to the study of human brain disorders, including mental illnesses and neurodegeneration, with the goal of translating basic discoveries into improved diagnosis and treatment strategies.
The appointed postdoctoral researcher will work on three main research lines: (1) identification of the mechanism of action of antidepressants to treat depression and related psychiatric disorders; (2) discovery of functional metabolites that regulate emotion and cognition in animals and humans; and (3) systemic approaches using -omics technologies to understand interactions between the brain and the microbiome. The role involves designing and executing experiments, analysing data, and disseminating results through publications and conferences.
In addition to research, the candidate is expected to devote up to 30 % of their time to teaching and service activities. This includes supervising practical sessions, internships, and bachelor projects, as well as mentoring master and PhD students. Outreach participation, such as contributing to campus‑organized science communication events, is also encouraged.
The contract is initially for one year, renewable based on positive evaluation, with a possible total duration of up to six years. Compensation includes an annual base salary of 46,624,160 KRW (approximately 3,885,347 KRW monthly, gross), two annual bonuses (June and December), housing provisions or allowance for non‑Korean applicants, two yearly round‑trip tickets to the candidate’s hometown (for non‑Koreans), private health insurance, and generous leave entitlements (35 days paid annual leave plus additional holidays).
Applicants must hold a PhD in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Pharmaceutical Science, or a closely related field. Required expertise comprises hands‑on experience with in‑vitro cell culture, ligand‑binding assays, and behavioral procedures using laboratory animals, along with a valid credential for animal experiments. Familiarity with in‑silico techniques such as molecular docking and omics (proteomics, metabolomics) is advantageous. Fluency in English (B2 level or higher) is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Applications must be submitted as a single PDF file containing a motivation letter (max one page), full CV with publications and funding references, contact information for at least two referees, copies of BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees, transcripts, a link to the doctoral dissertation, and a research statement with a work plan (max one page). Documents should be emailed to Prof. Dongik Park at [email protected] with the subject line “Postdoctoral researcher in Biomedical Research Center”. Review of applications begins July 1, 2026 and continues until the position is filled.
