This position is situated in the Hydraulic Engineering Department of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). The successful candidate will join the Horizon Europe project EU‑INTERCHANGE, which aims to produce climate services, datasets, and tools for assessing climate change impacts on European regional and coastal seas. The project will generate hindcast and future projection datasets of marine environmental parameters such as waves, water levels, ocean conditions, and storm surge information.
The core responsibilities include processing and analysing large environmental datasets, developing probabilistic models for engineering reliability assessment, and deriving relevant environmental loading conditions. The candidate will quantify uncertainties, translate climate projections into reliability indicators, and embed the final reliability framework into the EDITO portal for broader marine and coastal data services.
Applicants must hold a PhD in civil, mechanical, offshore engineering, or a closely related field. Essential requirements are proven experience in the statistical analysis of marine environmental variables, demonstrated expertise in reliability analysis of coastal, offshore, or other engineering systems, and strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Matlab). Desirable qualifications include experience in coastal hydrodynamics and wave modelling, a record of scientific publications, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
The appointment is for a duration of 28 months, with a workload of 32‑40 hours per week (0.8‑1.0 FTE). Salary follows the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, ranging from €3,546 to €5,538 per month, and includes benefits such as an excellent pension scheme via ABP, flexible working hours, and parental leave provisions. The position is based on‑site in Delft, Netherlands.
Applications must be submitted via the TU Delft website no later than 1 July 2026. Required documents are a CV (including a list of publications) and a cover letter explaining the match between the candidate’s interests and the position. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to prepare a short presentation on their previous scientific activities relevant to the role, with interviews expected in July 2026. The selected candidate is expected to start before December 2026.
For further information, candidates may contact Alessandro Antonini ([email protected]) or George Lavidas ([email protected]). Unsolicited emails will not be considered.
